
Recorded in Sydney in 2008 comes ‘A Short Life and its Troubles’, the debut release from Steve Wood and The Johnson Creek Drifters. Bluegrass, mountain music, old time, hillbilly swing and some country this 12 track release is mostly original material with a few old favorites from The Stanley, Louvin, and Maddox Brothers.
The Drifters are a collection of some of Sydney’s finest bluegrass and country pickers with big contributions from Mick Moffitt on fiddle and mandolin, Jeff Mercer on guitar, mandolin and dobro, Jeremy Edwards on dobro and guitar with Steve on banjo, guitar and vocals. Some other friends that dropped by for a sing or a pick include Rob Luckey, Jason Walker, Jenny Shimmin, Corrina Steel, Lachlan Dengate, Christian Power, Kane Dyson, Matt Alison and Tex Message.
Steve plays with Sydney country rockers Spurs for Jesus, he has previously been involved, recorded or toured with many acts some being - The Whiteliners, Red Rivers, The Buckskins, Doug Parkinson, Don Walker, Satellite V, Harlem Shuffle, Dale Watson, The Baylor Brothers, Mon Amour, Slowhand, Jason Ringenburg, Gadfly’s, Dogwater, Birddogs, Eddies, Johnny Carr, Corrina Steel, Rob Luckey, Juliet Moysten and also played double bass for several years in the Australian productions of ‘Buddy’ and ‘Elvis’ the musicals. As a studio musician he can be heard on various Australian country albums including a couple from the late great Slim Dusty.
