Jed Whitey

In 1998 Perth, Australia was so quiet you could hear the ‘roaches playin’ poker. It’d be unfair to say that nothing was happening musically in our sleepy li’l town, but anyone who tells you it was a kick-ass scene -and they crawl outta the woodwork once in a while - is a goddamn liar. If you liked your music loud, fast and rockin’, Perth was smack-dab in the middle of the express lane to yawnsville. It was against this backdrop that Jed Whitey first emerged. With the motto “Turn up, tune down, spazz out”, JW’s combination of hi-octane rock and roll and unfeasible volume attracted attention from the get-go. Three years, 200 shows, three EPs and numerous compilation appearances later, Jed Whitey have distilled the core elements of their sound. The guitars aren’t so fuzzy and the heaviness ain’t so heavy anymore, but the tempos have been kicked up a few notches, condensing the best elements of Detroit proto-punk, ‘70s hard rock and ‘80s hardcore punk. If you don’t think that’s a good thing you need your head examined. Oh yeah, Perth’s still lame. ‘Cept now you can’t hear the ‘roaches over the ringing in yer ears.
